This essay is a film review about the movie Millers Crossing directed by the Coen Brothers. Its a movie about organized crime and the bosses at the helm of it.

In my modest opinion, the have Millers cut across is Ethan and Joel Coens greatest achievement to date, even greater than Fargo and Oh young man Where Art Thou. The alto irritateher criticism Ive heard of this film has to do with the over-acting--a criticism that has been directed at more than one Coen film. Admittedly, Coen screenplays picture more like novels than movie scripts and ar not always actor-friendly. The yarn starts with tom turkey (Gabriel Byrne), a trusty lieutenant of a law-breaking boss named Leo (Albert Finney) who is in a Prohibition-era turf state of fight with his major rival, greyback Caspar (Jon Polito). A earthly concern of principle, tom turkey nevertheless is romantic wholey twisty with Leos lover (Marcia Gay Harden), whose insane brother (John Turturro) escapes a hit staged by Caspar only to become Toms problem. make matters worse, Tom has outstanding free rein debts he cant pay, which keeps him in unbendable touch with a cloggy enforcer. The friendship among Leo and Tom is severed when they both conk in love with Verna. Tom joins ranks with Johnny Caspar, and a bloody hoop war inflames. A short kingpin with an inferiority complex, he is soft manipulated by Tom, who convinces him that his henchman Dane is in cahoots with Bernie, allegedly Danes homosexual lover.
