SLD Award Nomination CSULB glide Team Shane youngish The Cal State University of languish land Sailing Team has returned after a twenty-year hiatus! The team up was stratified first in the country for three consecutive long time when the team began competing, over twenty years ago; this provided advanced standards for the newly rekindled CSULB travel team. The team is headed by two brothers, Shane Young (me) and Chase Young, who were born and raised as persistent brink locals. Along with the support of family, friends, the Office of Recreation & unite Sports, the Young brothers filled a much needed emptiness in the Long Beach communityâ€"the need for a sailing team. Long Beach is considered one of the most idealistic sailing venues in the world, and is unsurpassed by almost anyplace else in the country. There are a number of prestigious high discipline, collegiate, and professional/international regattas (sailboat races) held in Long Beach such as the Junior Olympics, Rose Bowl Regatta, Long Beach Race Week, Ficker Cup, and Congressional Cup. Before the CSULB Sailing team was revived, members of the current team competed, and placed well in all of these regattas with a first place in Ficker Cup.

With all of our successes as sailors, without representing our school and hometown, we knew it was time to make the transition into the highly rivalrous realm of collegiate sailing. I am going to specify what a sailing team is, what it takes to start and sustain a team, and our hopeful journey of a new organization on campus to a nationally ranked team. The CSULB Sailing Team has been considered a club sport since the spring semester of 2011, but our teams revival started long before that. A Cal State University of Long Beach alumni, sailor, and current Olympic hopeful, Michael Bradley, attempted to redevelop our schools sailing team in 2006. This proved to be a daunting task.
