The Panopticon is a central tower where there is this invisible like oversight at all times upon its objects. This individualizes a person, rids them of any power, collects study from them, and restricts any type of contact with the others in the same ineffective building. Foucault takes Jeremy Benthams Panopticon to see this diagram of power to learn how the march of observation and examination works.
The similarities between the Panopticon and 1) the plague stricken town, 2) the potential architecture of the Internet are that they all have an initiation of indefinite surveillance and monitoring. Panopticism and potential architecture of the Internet conduct a similar core understanding of power relationships, where they two draw power from information and knowledge from their objects of surveillance. In the Panopticon and in the plague stricken town, the objects under surveillance were denied privacy and had to be fully transparent about themselves and their activities to the higher power so the supervisors could clearly see and intake all the knowledge and information.
