Sixth Experiment:
Transistor Switching

Objective:
* Construct and taste a basic one junction electronic transistor racing band for its switching characteristics.
* rationalise how measurements clear determine if a transistor is in shortcut or is saturated.
* Add a second transistor to the transistor circuit and measure the switching threshold.
* Add hysteresis to the circuit and test both switching threshold.
Materials Needed:
* One solderless breadboard
* immunity 330, 1 k and two 10k
* One 10 k potentiometer
* Two small signal npn transistors
* One LED ( mouser 606-4303F1 or equivalent)
Procedure:
1. Measure and record the values of the resistors listed in defer 6-1. R1 is a 10 k ohm potentiometer and is not listed in the table. Rc1 is used in step 4, and RE is used in step 6.
2. Ideally, a transistor switching circuit should absorb either in shortcut or in saturation. The circuit shown in figure 6-1 is a basic transistor amplifier. It can easily be set for operation at these extremes by varying the potentiometer (R1). However, it can also operate amidst shortcut and saturation, a condition not desirable in a switching circuit.
