George Washington

George Washington was a great take uper to betimes America, not just as a president, but also as a leader of our military during the Revolution and other wars. He has done many things for this country and thats why he should always be remembered.

George was born on February 22,1732, in Westmoreland Co., Virginia. He was the son of Augustine Washington, a member of the colonial aristocracy, and Mary ball Washington, who was Augustines second wife. After Augustines death in 1743, George moved to Mount Vernon, a large estate in Fairfax Co. It was the home of Georges half brother named Lawrence.

Georges early notebooks indicated that he read widely in geography, military history, agriculture, deportment, and composition. At the age of 17, he was invited to join a party to lot lands owned by the Fairfax family, which George was related to by marriage, west of the obscure Ridge Mountains. Georges journey led him to take a lifelong interest in the development of western lands. In the summer of 1749, George was appointed official surveyor for Culpeper Co. During the next two years, he made many surveys for landowners on the Virginia frontier. In 1753, George was appointed aide of one of the districts into which Virginia was divided, with the rank of major.
